After the official registration of the Ile de Djerba as a UNESCO World Heritage, Tunisia now has nine sites registered for this list protected by this UN organization.

These include the historic medina of Tunis which is an exceptional example of a preserved traditional Islamic city. It is characterized by its narrow alleys, its historic buildings, its mosques and its traditional markets. The Tunis medina is a precious witness to the history of Tunisia and its rich cultural heritage.

There is also talk of the archaeological site of Carthage: the archaeological vestiges of Carthage, an ancient Punic, Roman, and Byzantine city, are located near Tunis. Carthage was once one of the most powerful cities in the Western Mediterranean and an important shopping and cultural center. The remains of

Carthage include ruins of temples, thermal baths, ports, and other historical structures.

Complete list:

El Jem Amphitheater (1979)
Carthage archaeological site (1979)
Djerba (2023)
Dougga (1997)
Kairouan (1988)
Medina of Sousse (1988)

The Punic city of Kerkouane (1985, 1986)
