When the AI transforms Bourguiba into a Ghibli character

On the networks, an unexpected wave takes everything in its path: “Ghiblification”. Thanks to the latest update of the OpenAi images generator, any photo can be transposed into the enchanting universe of the Ghibli studio.

Bourguiba himself does not escape it. In the delicate features of Miyazaki, he keeps this fixed, visionary look, posed on a future that he will never see, but that he continues to influence.

The image fascinates. Here, the supreme fighter becomes an animation character, frozen in a timeless poetry. But this technical feat raises questions: how far can artificial intelligence reinterpret history without distorting it?

If the Tunisians marvel at seeing Bourguiba revisited in this form, elsewhere, other figures undergo the same fate: Macron, Trump, Zelensky … All pass under the Ghibli filter, on the border of the marvelous and the pastiche.

But behind the enthusiasm is concern. Is “ghiblification” only a game, or a leveling of style, an industrialization of the dream? Miyazaki himself would no doubt have raised an eyebrow, he who rejected AI, preferring the human hand, imperfect, but sincere.

Whatever, the movement is launched. OPENAI had to restrict access to its generator as the request explodes. A bourguiba in animation? Why not. But what part of soul is it, when it is a machine that dreams for us?
