The Tunis court of first instance pronounced yesterday prison sentences ranging from 8 to 10 years against the members of a network made up of four people, including two foreign nationals, specialized in the falsification of passports in exchange for sums of variable money.
The case began when a young man was intercepted at Tunis-Carthage airport when he was trying to leave the country with a falsified passport. Asked, he admitted to having obtained the document for a sum of money from several individuals. The survey allowed the arrest of suspects and the seizure of several counterfeit passports.
The defendants were prosecuted for false seals of the public authority, in accordance with article 179 of the penal code, as well as for complicity, advice, mediation and assistance in the illegal exit of people from the territory of the Republic.
