This portfolio brings together some photographs captured one All Saints’ Day at the Borgel cemetery in Tunis, where they attempt to restore the fiery beauty of the graves.
Along the paths, tombs, sometimes centuries old, are lined up while the vaults of great Sicilian or Maltese families tell sagas that no longer exist.
Go to meet this still vibrant history, recall the living memory of this European Tunis and find in this place a palpable serenity on the margins of the city.
Since the Saint-Antoine cemetery which disappeared and left its location to the cathedral, Catholic burials have had Bab El Khadhra as their haven and then the Borgel where the ancestors of many families rest.
Even today, funerals are celebrated in this cemetery while every November 1, on All Saints’ Day, the place comes back to life thanks to the numerous visitors.
