Violence in schools in Tunisia continues to worry the teaching staff.
Four members (three teachers and the general supervisor) of the Chedly Atallah high school in Kairouan were victims yesterday, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, of physical and verbal violence from two students. Two teachers were injured and transferred to the emergency department of the Ibn El Jazzar university hospital in Kairouan.
The basic union of secondary education in Kairouan, falling under the Tunisian General Union of Labor (UGTT), reacted by announcing in a press release, the holding of a demonstration, this Wednesday, January 22, 2025, a two-hour sit-in (from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) in all of Kairouan colleges and high schools and surrounding delegations.
The purpose of this mobilization is to claim the application of exemplary disciplinary and security sanctions against the two students, responsible for these acts.
This case is not isolated. Last November, the teacher of a primary school at the Bardo was stabbed in the belly and by hand after granting a 2/20 note to a student.
In the superior Omrane, a teacher in education science was attacked with a sharp object by the father of a student, for similar reasons.
In April 2024, a professor was stabbed by one of his students while he was at the Dar Al-Aman College in Kairouan. The injured teacher had been transported to the hospital.
The phenomenon, in resurgence, fuels a climate of fear and tension in schools, making it urgent to implement measures to protect members of educational staff.
