CHICAGO – Every last Thursday in November, Famous America Thanksgiving.
Historically, it is an action of grace, one day during which the community thanks God for the abundance he gives him. Originally Thanksgiving was a day of prayer and young. It is Washington who created the Thanksgiving Day in 1789. It was Lincoln who made it a national day since 1863.
Today, Thanksgiving is a secular celebration during which all communities greet the event in the same way. Whether Christians, Jews, Muslims or some can be their obedience, all the Americans celebrate Thanksgiving with a family meal around a turkey.
This day, more than 50 million turkeys are consumed during family meals. It is also customary as the President of the United States Gracies a turkey. In fact, Obama pardoned two yesterday on the porch of the White House. In addition, solidarity is also in order since meals are served on a large scale at the poorest.
Why a turkey? The explanation finds its roots in history. Indeed, this animal was a real blessing for arrivals to the new world. They were able to feed on the flesh of this poultry at the early days of their installation. In this sense, Thanksgiving is also a gesture of recognition.
Marked by family meals, this day of Thursday November 24 is also the occasion for a large parade that looks like carnival. Indeed, a huge parade takes place every year in the city of New York, since 1924 when Macy stores have taken the initiative. At that time, the parade showed living animals, preferably exotic such as elephants or even camels.
Times have changed since then! This morning in New York, more than 3 million people attended the parade. Most of the children, they vibrated on the journey of brass bands and tanks and also giant balloons representing heroes of anime drawings like Mickey, Snoopy or Spiderman. The presence of several stars-who cannot miss this passage requires the most publicized- gave the party a people connotation.
The party continues all day with American football menu. Two “big matches” are on the program for major television networks. They will mobilize all the families who at the time I write are already stuck in front of the small screen.
The atmosphere here is a bit like that of Aid El Idhha with us. Moreover, Thanksgiving Week is the one during which air traffic is the densest all year round. All families come together for the day of the blessed turkey! It is also like at home, a day during which the child is king.
The many Muslim or Arabic Americans willingly sacrifice this party. They join a Celebration which is also that of the American dream that has led them so far. Of course, they also think of the proximity of the New Year of Hegire which will be famous here on Saturday, November 26.
How not to have the nostalgia for our couscous of Ras El AM too so rich in symbols? And also how not to dream of an AID who would be accompanied by such an imposing parade and so much childish joy?
While the lanterns will go out this evening on Thanksgiving, it is already the Christmas holidays that are on the agenda. Indeed, this feast of grace actions also gives the start of the “Holiday Season”. Good Thanksgiving has all and best wishes for the year 1433.
