The start -up of new trains connecting Tunis to Borj Cedria, scheduled for September 15, was postponed on a later date due to theft of equipment and materials necessary for the operation of these trains.
Indeed, 25 electric units, worth 5 thousand dinars each used for traffic lights, were stolen from their location, as well as a dozen kilometers of metal cables and wires.
This flight encouraged the company which installed these materials hired 100 goalkeepers to monitor the lines and prevent any flight, reports the weekly Al-Akhbar.
It should be remembered that the Tunis-Borj Cedria line having 23.2 kilometers and supports 200 daily trips and 25 million travelers per year. By these new trains, the SNCFT wishes to improve the quality of service by 26 % by allowing a trip every 37 minutes instead of 48 minutes. These new trains, driving at 110 km/h, consist of eight wagons that can transport 1,700 travelers.
