Seizure of 400 kg of cannabis in Sousse: Eight committal warrants

The investigating judge at the Sousse 1 court of first instance ordered, at the end of last week, the detention of eight people involved in a vast drug trafficking case, after the seizure of 400 kilos of cannabis in a port in the Sousse region. The investigation continues to identify other accomplices.

According to judicial sources, 25 people were interviewed in connection with this case, but only eight were the subject of arrest warrants. The charges against them are particularly heavy: constitution of a transnational criminal organization, importation and trafficking of drugs, as well as money laundering.

The case dates back to September 27, 2025, when agents of the central anti-narcotics brigade of the National Guard in El Aouina managed to intercept a shipment of 400 kg of cannabis resin, commonly called zatla, hidden in a port of Sousse.

This operation, carried out on the basis of precise information and under the direct supervision of the highest authorities of the National Guard and the Sousse 1 public prosecutor’s office, made it possible to avoid the placing on the local market of a significant quantity of drugs intended for resale.

A network with multiple ramifications

The first elements of the investigation suggest an organized network operating between Tunisia and abroad. The investigations, still ongoing, aim to trace the supply and distribution circuits, as well as to determine the origin of the seized goods.
