The broadcast of a telephone recording involving Noureddine Taboubi, secretary general of the UGTT, aroused a strong reaction from the Regional Labor Union of Sfax (URT).
Recording, recently shared on social networks, contains remarks deemed abusive of the region and its union officials, qualified as “mafia”. This declaration is perceived as an attack on the union unit.
In a press release published this Wednesday, January 22, 2024, the URT indicated that these remarks would have exacerbated the existing divisions and weakened the unity of the UGTT. The executive office therefore required clear explanations from Taboubi, as well as official apology to appease the situation and restore the cohesion necessary for the proper functioning of the organization.
The union leaders of Sfax stress that this crisis, if it is not quickly appeased, could have serious consequences for the future of the organization, calling into question the spirit of solidarity which has always characterized the Tunisian union movement.
