Journalist Youssef Oueslati died this Friday morning, plunging the Tunisian media world in deep sadness. A significant figure in independent journalism, he left a lasting imprint by his flawless commitment in favor of freedom of expression and professional ethics.

Former member of the Executive Bureau of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT), Oueslati distinguished itself through numerous congresses and union fights. A tireless defender of the rights of journalists, he embodied a free, critical and deeply attached voice to the values of the independent press.

During his career, he directed the editorial staff of the Echaâb newspaper and the magazine Akher Khabar, while collaborating with many Tunisian and international media. His professionalism and journalistic rigor made him a respected reference among his peers.

In a statement published at the announcement of his disappearance, the SNJT praised the memory of an integrated, generous and committed man, stressing his constant presence alongside his colleagues, whether in union struggles or solidarity impulses.

The union expressed its most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, their loved ones as well as in the whole of the profession, sharing their pain in this painful circumstance.

May God grant Youssef Oueslati his mercy and welcome him in his vast paradise.
