A scene of rare violence has turned upside down the educational community of Jendouba: a mother, desperate by the imposed transfer of her daughter to another high school, chose to set itself by fire in front of the establishment.

The drama occurred after the decision of the regional education police station to distribute nine students to another establishment, invoking the saturation of the classes. Among them, the victim’s daughter. Refusing to give in, the mother had multiplied the steps and the pleas to maintain her daughter in the same high school. In vain. Faced with the inflexibility of the administration, she transformed her despair into an irreversible act, under the eyes of dumbfounded witnesses.

“It is a tragic incident,” said Farid Faddaoui, secretary general of the regional section of secondary education, invited this Tuesday on Mosaic FM. According to him, the overload of classes dictated the transfer decision, but nothing suggested such an extreme reaction.

The mother, seriously burned, was transferred urgently to the Gallows Bat Gallow Hospital. In the region, emotion is lively: a maternal protest has turned into a national drama. The case questions both the administrative management of schools as about the silent distress of families ready for the future of their children.
