Hammamet: When citizens already reserve their graves in the cemetery!

Samir Seboui, secretary general of the municipality of Hammamet and in charge of the management of the matters of the municipal council, said that the municipality of Hammamet began the abolition of the booking practices.

Speaking on FM mosaic waves, he pointed out the existence of a phenomenon where people still alive appropriate locations and reserve them as a family tombs. Seboui criticized this practice, calling it “strange”.

And to add: “The phenomenon of appropriation and reservation of tombs is unusual and prohibited by law. All forms of possession have been removed from the Hammamet Islamic cemetery. »»

In the same interview, Seboui indicated that the municipality of Hammamet launched an Islamic cemetery cleaning campaign in anticipation of Eid El-Fitr. He stressed that this cemetery is experiencing an exceptional crowd on this occasion, in accordance with a well-established tradition in the city, known as “Qoblet Eid El-Fitr”.

According to him, the municipality’s cleanliness service mobilized 25 workers as well as heavy equipment for the elimination of waste, dry herbs and stones from tombs. To date, four tonnes of waste have already been removed.

Note that the Hammamet Islamic cemetery covers about five hectares and is located by the sea, near the historic fortress, which makes it one of the emblematic sites of the city. It attracts not only local residents, but also Tunisian and foreign visitors.
