A serious road accident occurred this Tuesday morning, around 8:00 am, on the regional road connecting Oum Laarayes to Redeyef, in the governorate of Gafsa. The accident involved a phosphate transport truck and a bus belonging to the Gafsa Regional Transport Company (SRTG). The violent shock between the two vehicles resulted in the death of six people and was nine injured.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the bus provided a liaison to the governorate of Sfax when it collided with the truck carrying phosphates. The exact causes of the accident remains to be determined, but witnesses on the spot report poor visibility due to a dense fog and a slippery road. Other hypotheses, such as technical failure or human error, are also envisaged.

From the alert given, civil protection teams quickly intervened on the scene to rescue the victims. Unfortunately, six people lost their lives on the spot due to the violence of the shock. Nine other passengers, suffering from injuries of different severities, were transported urgently to the Redeyef hospital to receive the necessary care.

Several survivors and witnesses described a chaos scene after the impact. “The noise was deafening, then cries were heard,” says an injured passenger. “The emergency services arrived quickly, but some victims were stuck on the bus. »»

A crisis unit has been set up to support the families of the victims and provide psychological support to the survivors.
