The Médenine court rendered its verdict on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, in the murder case of Romain Pizzato, a 42 -year -old French ski instructor, found dead on the island of Djerba in September 2022. Two men and a woman were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The drama dates back to September 17, 2022, when Romain Pizzato’s body was discovered floating in the pool of a residence on the island of Djerba. Quickly, the Tunisian authorities opened an investigation, leading three days later to arrest three suspects: two brothers aged 23 and 26, as well as a 28 -year -old woman, identified as the fiancée of the victim.

The autopsy had revealed one death by strangulation, with traces of blows and scratches on the body of the deceased, suggesting an act of violence before death.

The opening of the trial in October 2024 had been marked by an unexpected turnaround. In the presence of the mother of Romain Pizzato, the condemned young woman had returned to her initial confessions, explaining that the events were a simple argument having degenerated.

Despite this declaration, the judges retained the responsibility of the three accused, leading to a perpetuity conviction.

At the announcement of the verdict, the lawyer for the victim’s family expressed his relief. For her part, Romain Pizzato’s mother Odile Pizzato praised the decision of Tunisian justice while regretting that he still did not have to repatriate her son’s body to France.

If the judgment has marked a key step in this case, it does not necessarily sign the end of the file. The lawyers of the accused have already announced their intention to appeal, revealing a possible new legal battle.
