The first stage of the Formula 1 Air Race World Cup was organized this Sunday, June 7 at Habib Bourguiba de Monastir airport. The race took place over 5.8 kilometers, 15 meters above the ground.
The devices were light, between 250 and 300 kilos, and made up of two large wheels at the front and a small one at the rear. Each pilot wins points at the various stages, the one who has won the World Cup the most.
A Swedish winning the race
The Swedish Thom Richards won the race, aboard his plane the “Hot Stuff”, in 48.9 seconds, a speed of 427km/h.
Two Americans also climbed on the podium: Jay Jones, from Colorado, finished second with his “Quadnikckel Racer” device in 50 seconds (413 km/h) and Michael Mundell, originally from Ohio, reached third place with “Second Wild” in 52 seconds (400km/h).
Money category
As for the money category, other, longer and slower planes are used. The American Philip Gofalth, from Texas, made the best time with his plane “Pooder”, just behind him arrive Justin Philipson and his “Kermin” apparatus as well as the Hart Ecossais aboard his “Hart Attack”.
The next stage of the Air Race 1 racing World Cup will take place on June 28 in Lleida in Spain, as for the third and last stage, it will take place on September 20 in Reno in the USA.
