The Mohamed Belmufti Foundation for Justice and Liberties announced in a statement this Friday, December 12, that the police “used violence”, Thursday, December 11, within the Higher Institute of Human Studies applied to Gafsa, and arrested the student Mouldi Nasri, who had started a hunger strike since Tuesday, December 2, demanding the possibility of continuing his studies in Master.

According to the Foundation, the student Mouldi Nasri has been sent from the Tunisian University since 2003 following his union activity within the General Union of Tunisian Students (UGET) before resuming his studies following the 2011 revolution after 9 years of study stopping, and his only request was to obtain his right to study in Master.

Following these events, the Mohamed Belmufti Foundation for justice and freedoms announces:

His categorical refusal of the return of police abuses which harms the freedoms and rights of individuals.
Denounces that the return of these practices provides for the return of oppression and tyranny.
Education is a human right and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research should review its policy in this context.
Invites civil society to union and vigilance in order to deal with these oppression practices preventing their return.
Pursuing to justice each individual who has violated the law preventing students Mouldi Nasri from his right to strike.
