Tunisian Ons Jabeur will start the prestigious Wimbledon tournament against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova. Objective: to find the level which led him in the final on the London lawn two years ago.
The draw for the main female draw of Wimbledon 2025 was unveiled this Friday, June 27. The Tunisian Ons Jabeur, currently classified 59th in the world, will face the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (81st) in the 1st round of the London Grand Chelem.
The meeting promises to be decisive for the Tunisian champion, who seeks to regain her best level after a first half of the season marked by injuries and irregular results.
Wimbledon is a separate tournament for Ons Jabeur. In 2022, she had reached the final there, becoming the first African player to achieve such a feat in the open era. In 2023, she had reoffended, failing again in the final. These performances had made her an emblematic figure of world tennis and pride for all of Tunisia.
At 29, Jabeur returns with the desire to relive these emotions. Its current classification does not reflect its potential, and Wimbledon remains one of the tournaments where its varied and creative game is best expressed.
In the event of a victory against Tomova, Jabeur will face the duel winner between the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (20th world) and the British Sonay Kartal (49th). Two tough opponents, notably Ostapenko, known for her aggressive game and her Grand Slam experience.
The tournament will be held from June 30 to July 13, 2025. It remains to be seen whether Ons Jabeur will manage to make his talent speak once again and to cross the first laps, which often posed this season.
