The Tunisian under-17 selection perfectly launched its World Cup in Qatar by brilliantly winning against the Fiji Islands (6-0) on Monday for the first day of Group D. A resounding success which places the Carthage Eaglets at the top of the ranking, tied on points with Argentina.
An offensive festival to start
The young Tunisians delivered a complete performance, combining intensity, precision and efficiency.
Wassim Slema’s double (30th and 54th) opened the way to a clear victory, well supported by Fedi Tayachi, also author of two goals (35th and 85th). Anis Saidi (74th) and Seifeddine Haj Abdallah (80th) sealed the triumph of a Tunisian team largely superior in all areas of the game.
Argentina next challenge for the Aiglons
In the other Group D match, Argentina won against Belgium (3-2) after a hard-fought duel.
The next day, scheduled for Thursday November 6 (2:30 p.m.), already promises to be a major test for the Tunisian coach’s protégés: they will cross swords with the young Argentinians for a place as leader of the group. Fiji Islands, for their part, will face Belgium in the other match.
An ideal start for Tunisia
With this large inaugural victory, Tunisia asserts itself as a team to follow in this tournament. The Aiglons of Carthage display a prolific attack and promising cohesion, which bodes well before tackling the two upcoming shocks against Argentina and Belgium.
