Tunisia–Mauritania: The Eagles of Carthage “upset” in Radès

The Tunisian football team was held in check by Mauritania (1-1) on Wednesday evening at the Hammadi Agrebi stadium in Radès, during a friendly match marked by sterile domination and a lack of offensive realism.

In an empty stadium…

In an empty stadium, the Carthage Eagles took the lead in the 38th minute, thanks to a precise strike from Firas Chawat in the Mauritanian area. The Tunisian striker, already at the origin of several chances, had previously demanded a penalty in the 29th minute, which was not awarded by the referee.

But upon returning from the locker room, the visitors were able to take advantage of a moment of Tunisian defensive hesitation: Mohamed Sarr, on the edge of offside, equalized in the 51st minute, bringing his team back up to par.

Despite several attempts by Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane (70th and 72nd) and two acrobatic returns from Seifeddine Jaziri (78th and 90+5th), Tunisia failed to make the difference. Sami Trabelsi’s team was generally superior but once again sinned by inefficiency in front of goal.

Heading for Jordan and Brazil

This draw leaves regrets before the next matches: Tunisia will play a second friendly test against Jordan on Friday November 14, still in Radès, then will face Brazil in Lille on November 18.

These meetings are part of the preparation of the Carthage Eagles for the Arab Nations Cup in Qatar and the CAN 2026 in Morocco, scheduled between December and January.
