The head of government, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, revealed on Wednesday that a new bill on sports structures is being developed, marking a new stage in the overall reform of the Tunisian sports system. This initiative is part of the government’s desire to modernize sports governance, strengthen transparency and stimulate investment in infrastructure and clubs.
Legislative reform to modernize the sports framework
Presenting the Government Declaration during a joint plenary of the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) and the National Council of Regions and Districts (CNRD), devoted to the state budget and the 2026 economic balance, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri affirmed that this legislative reform aims to adapt sports structures to new economic, educational and societal challenges.
The text in preparation should make it possible to improve the management of clubs and federations, to promote the professionalization of Tunisian sport and to promote the participation of young people through a more flexible and incentive framework.
The head of government underlined that the year 2026 will see the continuation of the overhaul of the national sports system according to a “participatory and global” approach, focused on the training, supervision and development of young people.
She insisted on the need to make sport a lever for social and economic development, capable of strengthening Tunisia’s international influence while offering young people prospects for success and inclusion.
Infrastructure and structuring programs
Zenzri also confirmed that work on the reconstruction of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium will begin in 2026, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
At the same time, the government is continuing its efforts to support sports federations, expand the practice of sport to all social categories and strengthen physical education and sport for all.
