Tennis: Champion, born in Tunisia, Nicola Pietrangeli is no longer

Born in Tunisia, international tennis champion, Nicola Pietrangeli died on December 1, 2025 at the age of 92.

He made his debut in his native country and played tennis until 1977.

Born in Tunisia in the 1930s, and becoming a leading champion, Nicola Pietrangeli particularly distinguished himself during the Roland Garros tournament. Under the colors of Italy, he won this tournament twice. It was in 1959 then in 1960.

Born in Tunis in September 1933, Pietrangeli is a big name in world tennis who played on the courts of Roland-Garros but also at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the US Open.

With her elegant style and immaculate white outfits, Nicola Pietrangeli was part of the tennis elite and continued her career until 1977.

From a Russian mother, legend has it that his Italian father, who introduced him to tennis, made himself famous by giving lessons on improvised courts to prisoners, of whom he was a member, from a recovery camp in Gabès, during the Second World War.
