The project to reconstruct the El Menzah Olympic Stadium is taking a new step. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sadok Mourali, held a work meeting on Monday with a delegation of Chinese experts, with a view to finalizing the latest technical aspects and launching the effective implementation of the site.
This meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the ministry, brought together representatives of several key ministries: the interior, finance, equipment and housing, foreign affairs, migration and Tunisians abroad, as well as economics and planning. There have also taken part in the officials of the General Management of State Budget Management, testifying to the strategic importance given to this project at the national level.
Minister Mourali underlined, on this occasion, the commitment of the Tunisian authorities to materialize this emblematic project, which aims to modernize an historical infrastructure of Tunisian sport, while respecting international standards. He praised technical cooperation between the two countries, claiming that the El Menzah stadium, once rebuilt, will constitute a model of Tuniso-Chinese partnership in the field of sports infrastructure.
For its part, the Chinese delegation praised the spirit of collaboration and transparency having marked the exchanges with the Tunisian part. The experts reviewed the technical details of the project, including the elements of the specifications, the urban constraints, as well as the safety and accessibility requirements.
This project, the fruit of a bilateral agreement between Tunisia and China, will be largely funded by Chinese cooperation. The Chinese ambassador to Tunis had confirmed to the TAP agency that the two countries had reached an agreement on funding. The Tunisian part has already given a detailed feasibility study to Chinese companies in charge of the project.
The revival of the site for the reconstruction of the El Menzah stadium, whose work has been expected for several years, is a priority for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The project aims not only to restore a mythical speaker of Tunisian sport, but also to make it a multifunctional pole, capable of hosting both international competitions and major cultural events.
The meeting of Monday thus marks a concrete advance in this file, with the aim of an effective start of the work in the coming months.
