The city of Sfax is preparing to make combat sports history by hosting, from December 20, the very first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) World Championship ever organized in Tunisia and North Africa.

A historic first for Tunisia and the region

The event, led by the International MMA Organization HFC (Hybrid Fighting Championship), will see the participation of more than 32 internationally ranked professional athletes, representing more than 20 countries, the president of the organization, Aymen Belhajd, revealed this Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Invited on National Radio, Aymen Belhajd – educator, former judoka of the Sfaxien Sports Club and resident abroad – underlined the symbolic significance of this event.

“Organizing this championship in my native country is a lesser duty. It’s a way of returning the favor to Tunisia which trained me, and of giving an opportunity to our young people. »

A sporting, cultural and tourist event

The president of the HFC insisted on the multifaceted dimension of this meeting:

“This event is not only of a sporting nature, it also has a tourist and cultural character. »

The stated objective is clear: to promote the image of Tunisia through sport. Many athletes and international guests, impatient to discover “Tunisia, beloved and green”have already expressed their enthusiasm on the official Instagram page of the organization (HFC International).

The event will be supervised by the Tunisian Wushu Kung-Fu Federation, chaired by Riadh Belhajd, who welcomed the initiative and gave his support to the organization.

An international showcase for Sfax and Tunisia

After organizing tournaments in Burj Khalifa (Dubai) and in Lebanon in partnership with Tiger Muay Thai, the HFC is setting up shop in Sfax for an edition that is both sporting, tourist and symbolic.

“Through this championship, we want to maintain the image of Tunisia at the top and always brilliant,” concluded Aymen Belhajd.
