Back on the courts after several weeks of absence, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (28th in the world) will begin her campaign at the Masters 1000 in Madrid on Friday.
Expected by the first round as a seeded, she will face the Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (56th in the world), who qualified by defeating the American Robin Montgomery (100th), on the score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
This match will mark the return to Jabeur’s competition, far from the courts since his abandonment in the third round of the Miami tournament (WTA 1000) last March, following a left leg injury contracted against the Italian Jasmine Paolini. The Tunisian also gave up the Stuttgart tournament (WTA 500), opting for a period of rest and care.
Winner in Madrid in 2022, Ons Jabeur knows this tournament disputed on clay on earth, an area where she often shone. Her participation in this 2025 edition arouses many expectations, both with her fans and in the WTA circuit, while she seeks to regain her best physical and play level.
The Madrid tournament, one of the new WTA 1000 tournaments of the season, is a key stage in the preparation for Roland-Garros, scheduled for late May. A convincing performance here could launch the battered earth season of the Tunisian player in good auspices.
