Ons Jabeur retrograde in 5th place

Previously classified 2nd in the WTA ranking since June 27, Ons Jabeur, a Wimbledon finalist, downgraded in 5th place in the updated classification this Monday, July 11, 2022, losing 330 points of its total.

Despite a beautiful course in Wimbledon, Ons Jabeur was penalized by losing points. Result of the races: Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa Gibert were ironed in front of the Tunisian.

The explanation is simple! The organizers of Wimbledon having decided to exclude the Russians from the 2022 edition, following the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the ATP and the WTA therefore decided to penalize the tournament by withdrawing the points of the rankings.

Result: all the participants were penalized and were to withdraw points from the ATP and WTA rankings, regardless of their results in Wimbledon.

Ons Jabeur lost 330 points since she played the quarter -finals during the 2021 edition, which costs her three places in WTA rankings. Its competitors, apart from Aryna Sabalenka, not having a good service at Wimbledon 2021, they are less penalized.

On the men side, it is Novak Djokovic, holding the title and winner of the 2022 edition, which is the most penalized by losing 2000 points in the ATP classification, downgraded from 3rd to 7th place.

Recall that the points of the ATP and WTA rankings are the total of the points brought back by the players annually during official tournaments. Each time a player begins a new tournament, we withdraw the points collected in the same tournament the previous year and replaced them with the points won during the new tournament.
