On the sidelines of the qualification of Argentina in the World Cup final after his victory against Croatia (3-0), the Argentine captain, Leo Messi announced that he was going to play on Sunday “his last match in a World Cup”.

“I am proud to end my World Cup career by playing this final. Sunday will certainly be my last match in a World Cup. Many years left before the next World Cup and I don’t think this will still be possible. And ending like that is the best ”.

Lionel Messi, elected man of the Argentine-Croatia match in which he scored a goal and issued an assist, confided after the qualification of the Albiceleste for the final.

Lionel Messi last night played his 25th game in a World Cup, equalizing the German record Lothar Matthaüs. He will beat him on Sunday in the final after five world cups played.
