The World Anti -Doping Agency (AMA) announced Thursday, September 5, the Liberation of Mourad Hambli, former director general of the Tunisian National Anti -Doping Agency (ANAD). Hambli had been detained for four months in the context of a dispute on the application of anti -doping rules.
According to the AMA press release, Hambli was imprisoned for having “tried to respect the consequences of the non-compliance of the ANAD in the World Anti-Doping Code”.
The origin of this case dates back to April 30, when the AMA had confirmed the non-compliance of the ANAD with the World Anti-Doping Code, prohibiting it in particular from raising the Tunisian flag during sporting events. A decision applied in early May to the Tunisian Open Masters swimming tournament in Radès, where the national flag had been covered.
This incident sparked an investigation ordered by President Kais Saied, leading to the arrest of nine suspects. Following this event, the Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sports dismissed Mr. Hambli as well as the regional delegate of Ben Arous. On May 10, President Saied went to the scene and saw himself that the flag was covered.
