Karim Benzema won, last night, the Ballon d’Or 2022. It is the first golden ball won by a Frenchman for 24 years and that of Zinedine Zidane in 1998. The Real Madrid striker, author of a breathtaking season, preceded Sadio Mané (Liverpool / Bayern Muniche) and Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City).
By receiving his trophy last night from Zinédine Zidane, Karim Benzema Aa declared this:
“Seeing this this audience is acclaiming me is a pride. I think back when I was little, all the work accomplished, I never let go. It was a kid’s dream like all kids.
I grew up with that in my head then after I had motivation because I had two models in my life: Zizou and Ronaldo (both present at the Théâtre du Châtelet). It is a lot of work, it is not to let go, it is to train even more but above all always keep this dream in the head, that everything is possible.
Because there were times when it was much more difficult for me. We do not look at the good side today but there were these periods when for example, I was not in selection, where I did not let go, where I was with the coach here.
We worked a lot on training and he constantly repeated me to keep this joy of playing football and that one day, I could win this trophy. I am really proud of my journey.
Being there, here is the first time so I’m really happy, satisfied with my work. I will continue like this. I would like to thank all my teammates, whether in Real Madrid or in selection.
Thank you to them, to my coach, to my great president (Florentino Perez). The day he gave me the chance to sign at Real Madrid, he moved to my house, it shows the man he is. He has always been straight with me. He always put me in confidence, that’s why today he has all my respect.
I do not forget also Monsieur Aulas, all the Lyon Academy because without them, I could not have realized my dream of playing in Madrid. I do not forget all my family because we need a family, to be united. This golden ball is individual but it is also collective. This is why for me, it is the golden ball of the people ”.
