The pair won 2-6, 6-3 and 13-11 in front of the pair made up of the Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo (42nd WTA) and the Czech Marie Bouzková (64th world).
Ons Jabeur and Serena Williams struggled at the start of the match before going out later. In the next round, they will face the Japanese Shuko Aoyama (10th WTA) and the Taiwanaise Hao-Christ Chan (49th in the world).
