CAN 2023: The big disillusionment!

The national volleyball selection was eliminated on Saturday by Cameroon. After three consecutive titles, Tunisians will have to be satisfied with a place of honor.

It is a dramatic stroke, a disillusionment, a scenario that no one was at least waiting for in Tunisia. The national selection, title holder, was the main favorite with Egypt, organizing country.

With 11 titles won, Tunisia remains the most titled country in front of Egypt (8), Cameroon (2) and Algeria (2), but it had also been crowned in the last three editions (2017, 2019 and 2021).

On Saturday, our internationals lost foot in front of Cameroon by losing 1-3. The Tunisians had however started their match well by winning the first set (25-22) but the Cameroonians won the following three (25-20, 27-25 and 25-17) during the quarter-finals of this African Nations Championship.

The Tunisians are thus eliminated by a solid Cameroonian team which they had beaten in the final in the last edition disputed in Rwanda in 2021.

The National Six had however started the competition well by winning from the start against Mali (3-0), Chad (3-0) and Tanzania (3-0).

Friday, the National Six, qualified, in the quarterfinals by defeating Senegal 3-0, then his career was stopped by Cameroon.

A questioning is now necessary for the Italian coach of the national selection Antonio Jacob as well as for our internationals, who disappointed a whole country after this disappointment.

After its elimination, the Tunisian selection, will play from today, the classification matches for the 5/8th places against the selections of Rwanda, Chad and Morocco.
