The Tunisian national team left the Arab Cup in the first round, despite a convincing success against Qatar (3-0) on the last day of the group. A late performance which was not enough to erase the poor performances of previous meetings, leaving the Carthage Eagles in third place in the final ranking.
Tunisia, however, delivered one of its most successful matches in the competition. Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane opened the scoring in the 16th minute, before Yassine Meriah made the break on the hour mark (62nd). At the very end of the match, Mohamed Ben Ali sealed the victory in the 90th + 4, confirming Tunisian domination.
Despite this clear victory and an improved goal difference, the fate of the group was decided in the other meeting. Syria and Palestine in fact separated in a draw (0-0), at the end of a confrontation committed but without offensive realism. This sharing of points allowed Palestine, solid and disciplined, to retain first place in the group, while Syria, diligent and dangerous in sequences, secured second position.
