Tuesday, March 14, 2023, to mark the 500 days at the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French Embassy in Tunisia – labeled “Terre de Games 2024” – mobilized young people from high schools with French program and young Tunisian sports hopes to participate in the “Relais around the world”.
This 24 -hour sports relay crosses 116 countries and territories on the five continents, all the time zones on the planet. This is an unprecedented event that demonstrates the unique capacity of the sport to be collected thanks to the energy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A swimming relay with Osama Mellouli
At 9 a.m., after having received the witness of the relay from Latvia, the French Embassy in Tunisia organized, in partnership with the René Descartes school group in Tunis, a multi-generational triathlon: cycling cylinder race with kindergartens, running with primary school students, then a swimming relay with the Tunisian team Hopes and the triple Olympic champion.
In parallel, at the Lycée Sportif Pierre de Coubertin d’El Menzah, in partnership with the Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT), the Tunisian Olympic Hopes achieved a sporting performance combining combat, fencing and gymnastics to mark their total mobilization, 500 days from the Paris Olympic Games.
Tunisia has passed the relay in Portugal
Finally, throughout the day, throughout Tunisia (Bizerte, Djerba, Sfax, Sousse, Nabeul, Kairouan, Tunis …), nearly 18,000 students, teachers and executives of the 21 schools approved by the Agency for French education abroad (AEFE) participated in sporting events around sport and values of Olympism.
The Minister’s Minister of the French Embassy in Tunisia, Mrs. Fatène Benhabylès-Foeth, welcomed this success: “I am delighted with the very large mobilization of the French program network and the link that we were able to consolidate between France and Tunisia around sport and its values, 500 days from Paris 2024”.
For the Ossama Mellouli Olympic champion, this event showed that sport had several values, in particular friendship and sharing: “I think Paris 2024 will be a superb party”.
