The women’s national team suffered a heavy defeat against the Netherlands in Rotterdam (21-39) during its entry into the Main Round of the 2025 World Cup. With their backs against the wall after a difficult first round, the Tunisians will try to react on Saturday against Austria.
A start to the Main Tour without relief
For its first match in Group III, Tunisia never found the rhythm against a Dutch team dominant in all sectors of the game. Speed, shooting efficiency and dazzling transitions allowed the European champions to impose a gap which continued to widen as the match progressed.
The National Seven, still fragile defensively, conceded 39 goals, one of its heaviest setbacks in the competition.
An accounting situation already compromised
Arriving at the Main Round without any points, a direct consequence of the defeats recorded against France and Poland in the preliminary phase, the Tunisians share the bottom of the ranking with Argentina.
Conversely, France and the Netherlands started with four points, while Austria and Poland started this round with two points. A dynamic which places Tunisia before an immense challenge in hoping to recover.
Two matches to save honor
The selection will face Austria on Saturday, a solid but viable team if the Tunisian team manages to reduce turnovers and tighten up its defense.
On Monday, the players will close their Main Tour journey against Argentina, a match which could determine fifth or sixth place in the group.
The results of the day and the ranking
- Argentina – Poland: 25-28
- France – Austria: 29-17
- Tunisia – Netherlands: 21-39
Ranking
- France – 6 pts
- Netherlands – 6 pts
- Poland – 4 pts
- Austria – 2 pts
- Argentina – 0 pts
- Tunisia – 0 pt
Tunisia, bottom with an unfavorable goal average (65 registered / 111 conceded), must absolutely raise its level to avoid exiting the Main Tour without a victory.
