The seismic surveillance stations of the National Institute of Meteorology recorded, this Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 01:48 am, a telluric shock of a magnitude of 2.3 on the Richter scale in the governorate of Kairouan.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located on the surface, 6 km south of the El Jem region, 10 km south-east of Sbikha and 19 km north of the city of Kairouan.
Hassan Hammadi, head of the Research and Development Service in Geophysics at the National Institute of Meteorology, said on Mosaique FM that this is a very low jolt, recalling that the previous trees reported by the Institute are part of the normal seismic activity of the Earth, under constant surveillance.
According to him, Tunisia records between 40 and 50 telluric tremors per year, generally of low to moderate intensity, without representing a threat.
