Tunisia: Sfax too large? An elected official offers to split him into two governorates

The president of the Sfax Regional Council, Nourredine Kahhami, announced this Wednesday the official adoption of the regional development plan for the governorate of Sfax for the period 2026-2030. This ambitious plan includes 219 development projects equitably distributed over 16 delegations of the governorate, according to his declarations granted on the radio Diwan FM.

Kahhami stressed that projects include all essential areas and reflect a common vision and a collective dream inhabitants of Sfax.

For his part, the spokesperson for the regional council, Farid Salami, estimated that he is time to divide the governorate of Sfax into two administrative entitiesinvoking his important geographic extent and a dense population. This division would, according to him, allow to lighten administrative charges and improve the quality of public services.

The regional council has also approved several major structuring projects For the region, in particular:

  • THE Transfer of polluting industrial activities related to phosphate outside the city center of Sfax,
  • THE Taparura projectrehabilitation of the seafront,
  • The extension of the Taïeb Mhiri stadium,,
  • As well as infrastructure projects : access to drinking water, sanitation, public lighting and development of road networks.

This plan represents a Strategic turning point for the future of Sfaxwith the objective of strengthening economic attractiveness and quality of life throughout the governorate.
