Sfax observed a general strike in the private sector on Tuesday, triggered by the absence of salary negotiations and the impasse in social dialogue. A strike initiated by the UGTT.
The day of November 18 marked a new episode of social tension: in Sfax, the regional union of the UGTT maintained a general strike in private companies, denouncing the cessation of salary negotiations for 2025-2027, the Central Trade Union accusing the government of having blocked the discussions despite previous commitments.
Social dialogue at a standstill
This strike concerned private sector companies, whose employees gathered at the UGTT house before heading towards the governorate.
A movement is part of the UGTT’s approach, denouncing that the State has unilaterally ended the obligatory round of negotiations and accusing it of wanting to impose salary increases without tripartite discussions, an approach described as “unprecedented since 1973”.
