The drama shook the Gafsa region. A 21 -year -old woman died at the “Houcine Bouzayen” regional hospital after the rupture of her appendage, in circumstances deemed disturbing by her family. The latter finger at serious negligence in the hospital establishment.
The aunt of the deceased delivered a poignant testimony on the air of Jawhara FM. She said that her niece had started to feel strong pain on Sunday. Transported immediately to the regional hospital, she would have been refused to admission by the reception staff, on the grounds that her name was not registered on her care card. He would have been asked to regularize the situation or pay registration fees before they can access care.
Faced with this refusal, the young woman’s father should have brought her home, then regularize her situation the next morning (Monday) before renewing her in the hospital. It was not until that time that she was able to benefit from a first medical care and urgent exams.
According to her aunt, the state of the young patient had already damaged herself at this stage: her appendix had exploded. The doctor on duty would have immediately ordered an emergency surgery. However, the operation would have been delayed by four hours because the patient had drunk water, a contraindication before an anesthesia.
Exit from the operating room about two hours later, she was in critical condition, which required her immediate transfer to intensive care. She finally returned the soul to it.
The death caused a shock wave among relatives, which require that all the light be shed on medical and administrative responsibilities. The case relaunches the debate on the failures of the public health system and the bureaucratic obstacles which can sometimes cost life.
