Tunisia: cameras and facial recognition to secure the medina of Sousse

From Monday, September 8, 2025, the municipality of Sousse will take a new stage in securing its medina. According to the secretary general of the municipality, Mourad Ben Salem, a system of surveillance cameras will be installed at the level of Bab Jebli as well as in the northern perimeter of RIBAT DE SOUSSE. These devices will be directly linked to the municipal police operations room.

In total, four cameras will be deployed in these strategic areas. Mourad Ben Salem said they have advanced features, including the facial recognitionmonitoring pedestrian and vehicle flows, as well as the collection of real -time statistics on movements in these spaces.

The installation of this system aims above all to Protect tourism activity and visitors to the medinabeating heart of the historical heritage of Sousse. The municipality thus hopes to dissuade acts of delinquency, fluidify traffic and better manage flows in this particularly frequented area.
