During the plenary session devoted to examining the budget of the Ministry of Education, Minister Nourdine Ennouri presented a detailed update on the progress of the urgent interventions program initiated several months ago. According to him, 682 educational establishments were affected by this work, of which 190 are currently under construction and 61 have been completely completed.
In Mezzouna, the surrounding wall of the secondary institute which experienced a tragedy last April now displays a progress rate of 80%, the minister also announced.
The minister stressed that these interventions cover both the rehabilitation of infrastructure and the improvement of educational and technological equipment. However, he recalled that certain problems, such as the rise in the climate of violence in schools, go beyond the sole responsibility of the educational institution. According to him, these phenomena are rooted in social realities that must be addressed globally.
Ennouri highlighted the importance of bringing students back to their natural space, whether within the school or through the second chance program. He recalled that extracurricular activities constitute an essential lever. Music, theater, civic dialogue and sports clubs are multiplying, as are educational outings. Nearly 5,600 students, mainly from rural areas, took advantage of educational trips during the last holidays.
The minister also pointed out the administrative and legal difficulties which slow down certain projects, citing in particular the reluctance of several contractors to commit. Despite this, he assures that the department is striving to remove obstacles to guarantee the continuity of projects in all regions, particularly on the coast and in the north of the country. He also recognized a deficit in specialized human resources, particularly school psychologists.
With the 2026 finance law, the ministry plans to strengthen these systems, expand the coverage of specialized personnel and improve the overall quality of educational services. The aim is to enable smoother implementation of ongoing projects and meet the expectations of school communities across the country.
