From this Tuesday, the three municipalities of the island of Djerba begin the application of the measurement measurement of hooves (or “kbalat”) on vehicles in violation with the parking and stop rules. This decision is part of the “Security Holidays” program, in preparation for the summer season, and aims to reduce traffic jams, road congestion and the disorders that result from it.
This measure, that the municipalities of Houmt Souk and Midoun put into force after a period of interruption, and that the municipality of Ajim adopts for the first time, aroused shared reactions.
Some see it as a necessary response to anarchic behavior, such as parking on sidewalks or intersections, even calling for a continuous application throughout the year, beyond the summer season. Others, on the other hand, reject this decision, pointing to the lack of paid public parking lots and the absence of revision of the traffic scheme.
Opponents of this measure attribute the source of disorder to the presence of weekly markets in the city center, which disrupt traffic and cause traffic jams. They suggest moving them on the outskirts and transforming part of these spaces into paid parking lots, believing that this would represent a solution adapted to the current traffic situation.
