Tabarka airport soon reactivated

Tabarka-Aïn Drahem International Airport may soon find an activity. Located about 13 km from the city of Tabarka, this airport, capable of accommodating up to 250,000 passengers per year, has been under-exploited since 2011.

In January 2025, its air turnover was still zero, as said by Anis Azizi, its manager. Although the 240 hectare infrastructure is maintained in state thanks to regular state investments, it struggles to play its role in the tourist and economic development of the region.

In a declaration to the TAP agency, Anis Azizi recalled that the airport, in service since 1992, was once a gateway for travelers from France, Germany and Italy.

The recovery of the airport is considered essential to attract new tourism markets and facilitate the movements of Tunisians residing abroad, in particular those from northwest of the country.

In this perspective, Ali Zoghlami, regional delegate of the Tunisian Office abroad, announced the opening of irregular flights between Tabarka and Bologna from June 2025. These links, scheduled twice a week until October, result from negotiations with operators and aim to strengthen the attractiveness of the region, in particular thanks to its 25 km of coast Golf and hunting.

The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, confirmed that the government is working on the recovery of regional airports, including that of Tabarka-Aïn Drahem.
