The Governor of Manouba ordered the opening of an investigation following the discovery of medical waste in a local wild landfill, after a cleaning operation organized yesterday.
The National Environmental Protection Agency as well as all the structures concerned will intervene in order to clarify the origin of waste, assess their dangerousness, and take the necessary measures against managers of violations of regulations on medical waste management.
These rules are governed by ministerial ordinance n ° 2745 of 2008, dated July 28, which defines the conditions and methods of waste management from health activities.
According to this legislation, hospitals are required to conclude contracts with companies specializing in the collection, transport and management of medical waste, in accordance with article 8 of the same order.
