Local authorities have led major security campaigns in the cities of Sousse and Zarat (Gabès) in the past two days, aimed at enforcing the land and maritime public domain. The key: dozens of seizures, verbalizations for illegal occupation, and an awareness action for summer visitors.

Coordinated interventions on beaches, sidewalks and tourist areas

In Sousse, the regional municipal police brigade, supported by the national police (rescue units and service of the public road), led, Thursday, July 17, an operation targeted in the medina and on the coast. Stands and installations of itinerant sellers have been seized, as well as various tables, chairs and structures encroaching on the public domain, belonging to restaurants, cafes or shops.

In Zarat, Wednesday, July 16, the operation “Our beaches, our 2025 responsibility” mobilized the representatives of the Littoral Protection and Development Agency in Gabès, the units of the Maritime Guard, the Municipal Guard, the Public Security, the municipality of Zarat as well as the Omdas.

The controls carried out on the beaches of Maamoura and the Corniche led to 3 health offenses, processed by the municipal guard, 2 verbalizations for illegal occupation of the maritime public domain without authorization, exceeding an authorization.

Multisectoral coordination

In Sousse, the operation was supervised by Governor Sofiene Tanfouri and the regional director of national security, with serious observations such as the installation of a swimming pool on the sandy band of the beach. Commitments have been made to strengthen follow -up, especially around the port of the city.

In Zarat, in addition to the observations, the authorities led an awareness campaign to summer visitors on camping rules and the legal use of coastal space.

Campaigns that intensify

In both cities, local authorities are increasing the interventions against the illegal occupation of public space. Common objectives: preserve free access to citizens, protect the coast, guarantee security and support tourism activity in a regulated framework.
