Sixth telluric shock since the start of the year!

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INM), a telluric shock with a magnitude of 3.4 degrees on the Richter scale, was recorded this morning at 8:2h, off Gabès to the northeast of the city of Ghannouch.

The epicenter was located at 34.11 longitude, and 10.21 latitude, said the INM.

This is the sixth telluric shock recorded in Tunisia since the beginning of the year.

The last, January 30, had a magnitude of 3.56 ° on the Richter scale and was recorded around 10:59 p.m. to 12.2 km, northwest of the Rouhia region (Governorate of Siliana).

The seismic stations of INM recorded, the day before, another telluric shock of a magnitude of 3.2 ° on the Richter scale, 12 kilometers from the south-east of Mezouna (governorate of Sidi Bouzid).

On Saturday, a seismic shock of a magnitude of 3.5 ° on the Richter scale was recorded in the southwest of the city of El Kattar, in the governorate of Gafsa.

On January 24, a telluric shock was felt in the northwest of Kairouan and reached a magnitude of 3.5 ° on the Richter scale.

A telluric shock of a magnitude of 3.4 ° on the Richter scale was also recorded, on January 18, 2024 in Kerkennah, more precisely in the southeast region of Kerkennah (sea coast).

Far from the most active seismic areas, Tunisia only knows telluric tremors and not real earthquakes, being in a moderate seismicity area. There is therefore no place to worry in particular for tremors of magnitude less than 4 ° on the Richter scale, which remain frequent worldwide.
