A fire simulation involving dangerous materials was led on Tuesday at the Sfax commercial port. This large -scale exercise aimed to test the responsiveness of port services and regional authorities in the face of chemical emergency, while assessing the effectiveness of the intervention plan and the means of combating marine pollution.

A large -scale white operation took place on Tuesday at the Sfax commercial port, simulating a fire aboard a container of dangerous materials and its spread to a neighboring unit. This exercise aimed to test the responsiveness of intervention teams in the face of a major emergency situation and to strengthen coordination between the various port actors.

Organized within the framework of port safety and security exercises, the event mobilized the port services, the regional authorities, the Office of the Merchant Navy and Ports (OMMP), Civil Protection, as well as the Security Forces. The goal: to assess the implementation of the emergency plan, the communication chain in the event of a crisis, the management of health and environmental risks, as well as the ability to response to marine pollution.

The scenario provided for a fire triggered when handling a container containing chemicals. The simulated incident required the coordinated intervention of port services and the tug to secure the ship and disembark the disaster container. The civil protection units then intervened to control the fire and rescue the fictitious wounded.

Finally, a deployment of equipment for combating marine pollution was carried out to contain dangerous substances and protect the port basin. According to Sami Menani, foreman at the Stam, this simulation is crucial in the face of the real risks posed by the dangerous materials manipulated at the port.
