The Regional Commission for the Management of Disaster and Organization of Sidi Bouzid rescue took, during a meeting held this Friday, February 21, 2025, a series of measures and arrangements following the registration of nine seismic tremors in the region since February 3.
The commission decided to remain in a permanent meeting, to mobilize the resources and equipment available, and recommended the sending of local committees to inspect the buildings threatened with collapse. She also planned the organization of earthquake simulation exercises and the development of a communication plan to adopt after each jolt.
Sidi Bouzid’s head of the weather station, Abdelmajid Douzi, told the TAP agency that several areas of the Meknassy delegation have recorded successive tremors since February 3, the ninth having been recorded today. All were of low intensity, with the exception of the first, which reached 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale, without causing material or human damage, apart from some cracks in certain buildings.
He pointed out that this is the first time that the governorate of Sidi Bouzid has recorded nine successive seismic trees in such a short time and that there is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon for the moment.
For his part, the regional director of civil protection in Sidi Bouzid, Mourad Saghir, told the TAP agency that because of the frequency of tremors in the region, the regional disaster management commission follows the situation daily and mobilizes all the necessary material and human means, while taking the required precautions.
