Sfax: Several arrests after the railway station ransacking

The Sfax railway station was the theater, at the dawn of this Thursday, August 21, 2025, of serious acts of vandalism which caused significant material damage. Videos broadcast on social networks show broken windows, a devastated hall and destroyed public facilities, plunging the station into a state of desolation.

Arrests and opening of investigation

The Governor of Sfax, Mohamed Hajriconfirmed the triggering of security investigations and announced the arrest of several individuals involved in these acts.
“These people got off the train and entered the station with the manifest intention of ransacking,” he told Diwan FMstating that they will be translated to justice.

For his part, Hichem Mnifdirector of the Southeast SNCFT region, told FM mosaic that the police had quickly controlled the situation and arrested several suspects, qualified as “Disorders”.

Testimonials and damage noted

According to the SNCFT, the attack targeted the main hall, the counters and a kiosk whose content has been looted. Despite this violence, rail traffic resumed with a departure assured from 6 a.m.

The national company has also announced that it reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings against the authors, denouncing “Acts of premeditated vandalism”.

The Governor of Sfax insisted on the need to end this type of behavior that has already reproduced during similar events:

“Sports or festive opportunities should not turn into chaos and destruction scenes,” he said.

A technical and administrative delegation from the Ministry of Transport was dispatched to the site to assess the extent of the damage and supervise the opening of an official survey.
