Sfax sets up the participatory budget through Citizens Fora

This year, the city of Sfax has adopted the participative budget, a tool set up to promote democratic local governance. In this context, the municipality of Sfax organizes Fora dedicated to citizens by district, from May 16 to June 7, 2015.
The participatory budget allows citizens to be direct actors in the proposal of municipal projects. This instrument is based on the principles of transparency, equity, efficiency, sustainability and civic engagement.

In 2014 the Marsa municipalities, Menzel Bourguiba, Tozeur and Gabes had already adopted this democratic instrument. This year are Manouba, Gafsa and Sfax who adopt it.
Fora Citizens
The Fora will be organized by districts, from May 16 to June 7, 2015.
Saturday, 16 and Sunday 17 May 17 will take place the Citizen Forum of the Sfax Medina district, the weekend of May 23 and 24 will take place those of the districts of Bousten, Rebadh and Sfax Nord.
On Saturday May 30 and Sunday 31 May will be held the citizen forums of Sidi Mansour, Markez Chaker and Cité Habib 1. Finally, on June 6 and 7 the last citizen forums will be organized in the districts of Sidi Mansour 2, Markez Chaker 2 and Cité Habib 2.
The opportunity for the inhabitants of the city of Sfax to decide on projects relating to sidewalks and roads or public lighting for example, through the instrument of the participative budget.
More than 3000 municipalities in the world have already adopted the participatory budget.
