This Monday, June 2, 2025, several fires declared themselves in agricultural areas of the governorates of Jendouba and Béja, causing significant damage to the crops of wheat, barley and sugar cane.
In Sidi Hammouda, in the north of Jendouba, a fire ravaged 1.4 hectare of agricultural land, including fields of wheat, barley and sugar cane. The civil protection units quickly intervened with two fire trucks, including one of 4000 liters, to control the flames and prevent their spread to the neighboring fields.
In the governorate of Béja, three fires were also reported. The first in Aïn Blouine in the delegation of Béja Nord was quickly circumscribed. However, a second fire in the same area is still being extinction. A third fire hit a wheat farm in Mestaouta, in the delegation of South Béja, destroying about 15 hectares, according to firefighters.
Local authorities call for increased vigilance due to current climatic conditions, marked by high heat and drought that promote the spread of fires in agricultural areas.
