The municipality of Saned, located in the governorate of Gafsa, was designated as the cleanest municipality in Tunisia for the year 2025. This recognition results from a double assessment on a regional and national scale, led by the interior and equipment ministries. A distinction which rewards several years of efforts in terms of urban management and public services.
Regional selection and national evaluation
Saned won the national prize for the cleanest municipality, after a field and unexpected assessment process. The classification took place in two stages: first a regional selection where Saned was designated as the cleanest municipality in the governorate of Gafsa, then a national assessment supervised by the Ministries of the Interior and Equipment and Housing.
According to Nabil Sendi, secretary general in charge of municipal management, this recognition rewards the management strategy adopted for several years and the continuous efforts of municipal agents.
The evaluation focused on various aspects: municipal infrastructure (slaughterhouse, central market, public gardens, cemeteries, municipal deposit); equipment park, 90% of which are operational; Training policy and internal technical workshops (welding, mechanical, washing, tire repair).
Deserved recognition
The news has been welcomed locally as a deserved recognition of a collective effort between the municipal authorities, the agents, and the partners of civil society. Nabil Sendi expressed his pride and underlined the importance of synergy work with partner organizations, in particular in the context of sustainable development projects and circular economy.
The municipality of Saned has distinguished itself in recent years by innovative projects and strategic partnerships, in particular with the “Aroubata” biological complex for the valuation of skins; the association of young farmers for the production of compost; GIZ (German cooperation) and ILO as part of a development project in Saned El Jebel
Large sites, such as paving of roads, sidewalks, installing public lighting and access to drinking water, have reinforced the municipal performance and the quality of life of the inhabitants.
